Sical among 3 cos to develop multi-purpose berths at Kandla
Kandla Port Trust on Tuesday issued Letters of Intent (LoIs) to three firms for construction of three multi-purpose berths (except for handling containers and liquid cargo) in the port. The three firms are Sical, Chennai, for construction of berth 14, IMC, Chennai, for construction of berth 15 and PSL, Mumbai, for berth 16. Earlier, the port had awarded contract to Ras Infraport Pvt Ltd for construction of berth 13. Mr M A Bhaskarachar, Deputy Chairman of KPT, told Business Line over phone from Kandla that berths 14,15 and 16 had to be re-tendered several times in view of the poor response from the prospective bidders. The capacity of each berth would be two million tonnes, he said, and estimated the total cost of the four berths at Rs 750 crore. ¡°The construction of the berths has to be completed within two years,¡± Mr Bhaskarachar added. |
