Quayside container crane is the special crane for loading and unloading container ship in a container terminal. Nowadays it is the main equipment for handling the container in each container terminal. Quayside container crane mainly uses container spreader to load or unload the container. In order to adapt to loading and unloading the heavy cargo in some container ship, some quayside container cranes are equipped with heavy cargo hook. Moreover some quayside container cranes have both the functions of container handing and grab bucket handling. Its structure depends on the operation characteristic and function. Generally speaking, thousands of quayside container cranes in the world have different forms because of their different suppliers. The common quayside container crane is shown in Fig 6-1.
The main mechanisms of quayside container are hoisting mechanism, traveling mechanism of the trolley,traveling mechanism of the larger traveler,pitch mechanism of the boom. The function of hoisting mechanism is to lift container or spreader. The function of traveling mechanism of the trolley is to make the container or the spreader and the top carriage reciprocate horizontally. The function of traveling mechanism of the larger traveler is to make the whole crane move horizontally along the rail of the container terminal apron. The function of pitch mechanism is to make the front girder luff round the turning point. Quayside container crane can be classified according to 3 aspects which are the construction form of gantry,the styles of avoiding the ship and the mode of traction of the trolley. We can classify quayside container crane as A type gantry, H type gantry and AH type gantry from the angle of the construction form of gantry. Also, we can classify the quayside container crane into pitching type, folding type and sliding type from the angle of the styles of avoiding the ship. And, at last, we can classify the quayside container crane into auto-walk type,fully-rope towing type and semi- rope towing type from the angle of traction of the trolley .Semi- rope towing type is the most popular type used now. Some of related parameters of quayside container crane are as follows: lifting capacity,lifting height,reach(outreach and backreach),rail gauge,the velocity of the trolley(full load and no load),the lifting velocity and so on. At present, the outreach can be The lifting velocity of the old quayside container crane is The unloading operation is as follows 1 Before the ship gets alongside the wharf, make the quayside container crane at the about position. 2 After the ship gets alongside the wharf, make the crane at the specific position. 3 According to the handling sequence, move the trolley above the container which is waiting to be unloaded, and then let down the spreader. 4 Lock the container and then lift it. 5 Move the boom of the trolley toward landside, thus the container is transported to the appropriate equipment on land. 6 Unlock the container, separate the spreader and the container. 7 Lift the spreader, move the trolley to seaside. And now another cycle can begin. The loading operation is opposite to the unloading operation. |
